Die Zustände bei Brand und Feuer und der Einsatz von Belüftungsanlagen in Tunnels, werden im Originalmaßstab nachgeahmt und in einen Prüftunnel unter wahren Verhältnissen getestet.

Das Labor erlaubt die Prüfung von Ventilatoren in den Bauarten und Größen die man normalerweise in Tunnels und ähnliche Anlagen verwendet. Die Testabläufe erfolgen entsprechend Normung EN12101-3:2002.

A large fire full-scale test campaign has been developed by FOGTEC at the San Pedro de Anes Experimental Center. These tests have been contracted by FOGTEC to Tunnel Safety Testing (TST) to demonstrate the performance of their water mist systems in similar conditions to the ones found in the Eurotunnel. Along the first four months of 2010, the TST experimental tunnel was specially adapted and conditioned to simulate the characteristic of the Channel tunnel and finally during March-April a series of fire tests reaching up to 200 MW were carried out, with the complete satisfaction of EUROTUNNEL and FOGTEC. These tests are among the largest ever carried out in experimental tunnels across the world, and have required a careful planning and design of the test programme.
