ENAC accredited lab to test fans at high temperature

The fan testing station is located in a 1.000 m2 surface building and includes a test furnace chamber and a hot air recirculation loop.

Furnace chamber

The furnace is used to tests fans which in case of fire would be entirely exposed to high temperatures, as it is the case of the jet fans.

The test chamber is an enclosure of 10.66 x 4.16 m in layout, and 3 m high. It is adequately protected in the inner side, and has an internal air recirculation system and a gas burner with a power of 1400 KW.

Hot air recirculation circuit

This facility is used to tests fans in which only the inner part has to withstand high temperatures in case of a fire, as it is the case of large axial fans used in transversal, semitransversal, or Saccardo schemes.

It is a closed recirculation loop in which the air is warmed using a gas burner. Main characteristics are:

  • Total length: 48.4 m
  • Duct diameter: 2400 mm
  • Measuring chamber diameter: 3800 mm
  • Burner power: 4050 KW

Control system

Both testing facilities are controlled by a computer system that enables an accurate control of the tests and the acquisition of all relevant data. This control system is independent from that of the tunnel, and is located in a control cabinet within the same building.

Characteristics of testing fans

Fans of the following characteristics can be tested at the high temperature station:

  • Diameter: up to 3000 mm in the loop up to 2000 mm in the furnace
  • Electrical power: up to 1000 KW
  • Supply voltage: 400 ÷ 6900 V
  • Frequency: 50-60 Hz

CE mark

The high temperature testing station complies with the requirements of the European Standard EN 12.101-3:2002, and is accredited as Test Laboratory by the Spanish accreditation body ENAC according to the ISO / IEC 17025.

Carried out Tests

Since 2005 the laboratory has grown to be placed in a privileged position regarding fans tests and other auxiliary elements according to the Standard EN 121010-3:2002.
